Advertising — Technical guidelines

Adverts are accepted by e-mail attachment or on CD, or in rare cases, hard copy. Your advert should be sent in PDF format, or a picture format like TIFF or PNG.

Editable text formats like Microsoft Word are, by design, fluid in their layout of pages, do not embed fonts, and render differently in different programs and program versions. If you submit your advert in such a format, you run the risk of it not looking quite how you intended. For example, fonts may be substituted and the layout may differ slightly.

If you’re advertising a not-for-profit event, the editor can design the advert for you. In this case, you are free to submit plain text, a Microsoft Word document, or hard copy. Please ask if you’d like the editor to liaise with you over the final design of the ad.
